AT&T announces the deployment of fiber out of the region in order to fulfil its own wireless demands. This deployment is not only being done for its own requirement but also to satisfy its business and home customers who want fiber-based services.
“According to Scott Mair, Senior Vice President of Technology Planning and Engineering at AT&T, the company is extending is fiber based services. He says that the company has a strong fiber base to its own current cell towers, but now the company is looking for the solutions to expand the fiber out of its own territory.”
He also added that “we have been deploying fiber out of our territory for cell towers and also for businesses.” “The strategy to deploy fiber out of the region has been under the development for years, and now we have started to implement our strategies to deploy fiber out of the region where it is economically worth.”
The goal of AT&T is to roll out FTTH to 56 markets, which is currently far away from the current coverage. At present, AT&T has been covering FTTH in 21 markets spanning 1.6 million homes.
The AT&T strategy to expand the fiber base network is developed to fulfil several purposes, including its own wireless and wireline assets. The team at AT&T has been working on to evaluate if the distributed antenna system (DAS) should be installed along with fiber and Ethernet equipment. Moreover, for home networks the fiber has been deployed near business buildings, existing cell towers, and future planned cell towers.
“Scoot Mair says that the company is building strong fiber networks based on an integrated approach by bringing different sources and information together from wireline, wireless, and business on fiber perspective. This is being done for the goodwill of AT&T’s future cell deployments.”
